Parent Letter 02-16-2017

Dear Queen of Peace families,

The Catholic United Raffle continues and the Mardi Gras is coming! These are two wonderful opportunities for fellowship and fundraising. If you’re wondering why we need to do fundraising, the total annual cost of educating a student is over $5,000, while the total tuition is less than half that amount. We hope each family will take advantage of these fundraising opportunities to help keep the cost of tuition as low as possible. Thank you for all you do for your children, our students, and our school community!

The Catholic Schools Raffle has only ten days to go!  Please ask friends, relatives, neighbors, and co-workers if they would like a chance to help our school and possibly win $20,000.

Our school keeps every dollar raised through this raffle and the PRIZES are wonderful!

Remember the goal is for the school to average 60 sold tickets per family.  Each family was initially sent home with just 30 tickets (3 packs).  Please stop in the school office or contact Kim Frye for additional tickets as needed!  We still have some available to be claimed! Please see more info on the additional attachment.

Sales tips of the week:

  • Stop in at local businesses! As many of us support local businesses they too are willing and often times more than happy to support our local school.
  • Contact a parishioner – set aside some time to make a few phone calls or even stop by in person!

The FUNdraising event of the Year!

Tickets are available in the school office and after weekend masses.


Thank you to all who have already signed up to help with the various positions. We still need more helpers the day of the event specifically with the ticket/checkout table.  Please check out the sign-up sheet in the school.

Mardi Gras Event Tickets:

Reminder if you wish to get in on the drawing for front row parking, ticket orders need to be turned in on Monday. Otherwise tickets orders can be turned in through Thursday Feb. 23 to allow orders to be processed and tickets back to you. Tickets can be purchased through the office on Friday Feb. 24th. All tickets sold prior to the day of the event will be eligible for family credit.       (continued on next page)

Cragun’s Resort Stay and Gas Grill/B&B $400 meat card raffle tickets: We still have lots of tickets left so if you think you can sell them at your work or to friends who can’t come to our event please check out some tickets at the office.

The Queen of Peace Facebook page will be having updates on our various raffles, live auctions and Silent Auctions. Please share and invite. Also please share our Mardi Gras event post and invite your friends through Facebook.

Baskets and Silent Auction items can be dropped off starting Feb. 16th at the office. Fill out the donated item slips located in the office. If you need ideas or have questions regarding baskets, contact Kim Franckowiak (218) 428-6882 or Becci Erickson (218)380-1080

A few ideas for a “basket” may be….
-Chocolate….anything chocolate,         -dinner in a basket….spaghetti sauce, noodles, etc.,
-Coffee….mugs, coffees, creamers,       -quiet time….book, bookmark, and book light,
-Movie night….popcorn, bowl, movie,   -kitchen tools,
-game night….card games, board games, puzzles, etc., -pet items,
-Kids items….color books, crayons, etc., -baking items ,
-Bath accessories….bath salts, bubbles, body wash, -Scrapbooking items

Lenten Soup Supper Fridays: Can you help? We are looking for a couple of parents who would like to host a soup supper. Fridays that are open are: March 24, March 31, and April 7. Please contact Peggy in the parish office. (218-879- 6793)           Thank you!

We are still looking for a part-time Pre-School Aide. Would you like to help? (Pay is $9.50 per hour.) Any adults (18 or older) interested in being a part-time aide in the preschool classroom for approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours during the middle of the day, are asked to contact the school office at 218-879-8516. A Background Study and Safe Environment Training must be completed before working with preschool students.

Pennies for Patients: As in past years, we are participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s program to raise money to help in the fight against blood cancer. The dates are February 10 through March 30. Students brought home a flyer and a collection box last Friday. Students are encouraged to collect dollars, checks, and change to help with the Pennies for Patients effort. Last week’s ticket return marked the mid-way point of this year’s raffle. A total of 67 schools returned 42,572 sold tickets to the Catholic United Financial Home Office. That translates into a total of $372,875 raised for Catholic education in the first half of this year’s Raffle! Great work guys! We are on track to raise $1 million for Catholic schools again this year! But we got to keep the momentum going.

Here is the list of top ten performing schools (along with their tickets per student seller number) after last week’s ticket return:

From our diocese, Marquette of Virginia is in the top two … and Brainerd is still in the top ten.

  2. (tie) St. Agnes in Osakis, MN and St. Francis of the Lakes in Brainerd, MN – 17.1 tickets
  3. St. Wendelin, St. Cloud MN – 20.5 tickets
  4. St. Mary’s in Worthington, MN – 21.9 tickets
  5. St. Peter in Canby, MN – 24.0 tickets
  6. Sts. Peter and Paul, Richmond MN – 25.4 tickets
  7. St. Pius X in Glencoe, MN – 26.0 tickets
  8. St. Scholastica in Isanti, MN – 26.7 tickets
  9. Marquette in Virginia, MN – 30.9 tickets
  10. Holy Cross in Kimball/Marty, MN – 32.4 tickets

I’m sure I don’t have to remind you that the top three performing schools at the end of the Raffle will be awarded a $3,000 grant from Catholic United Financial! The top three schools are determined by the most tickets sold per student seller. Will Holy Cross, Marquette, and St. Scholastica hold their positions, or will another school come from behind to claim victory? We have had schools who were not in the top ten at the midway point walk away with a Top School award in the end. Keep pushing those ticket sales in these final ten days!
