Dear Queen of Peace families,
Our annual Kindergarten Round-up is next Monday March 13th from 9 to 11 a.m. Please encourage friends and neighbors with children of Kindergarten age to attend. A copy of our Kindergarten Roundup flyer is also attached to this message.
Health issues to be aware of:
Student allergies – We have one or more students who are very allergic to pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.) and pet dander. We need to ask that pets not be brought into the school, nor into After-School Club. When we have the special Blessing of Pets in October, the families are able to plan ahead. Otherwise, please keep pets at home.
Our need to maintain a “peanut-free” school also continues, as we need to protect those who are severely allergic to nuts.
Influenza diagnosis this week – We have at least one student who has been diagnosed with Influenza A and, in particular, with a strain which is not covered by this year’s flu shot. So, many of our students may have been exposed. In case your child comes down with flu-like symptoms, you may want to consult with a medical professional for advice.
People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms: (source: CDC)
- Fever or feeling feverish/chills.
- Sore throat.
- Runny or stuffy nose.
- Muscle or body aches.
- Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
Soup Supper – We are seeking help and participation from school families able to bring soup for the “soup supper” date on Friday April 7. Stations of the Cross will begin at 5:30 pm, so the soup will need to be ready to serve around 5:50 or so. Donations of different kinds of meatless soups, some rolls or bread sticks, and probably some fresh veggies are needed. Coffee, water and lemonade will already be there and we won’t need paper products as the napkins and cups that are there can be used. Bowls, etc. can be washed in the dishwasher. Donations of soup can be brought in hot around the serving time or left in the refrigerator earlier in the day (or even the day before if necessary). Rolls and veggies can come in either Thursday or Friday.
Volunteers to help serve and clean up would also be appreciated. It is served buffet style, so there is not a lot of work involved overall. Anyone willing and able to donate or work is asked to contact Mary Marquis, as she will coordinate our efforts. Email:email@example.com, Cellphone: 218-310-3102.
Thanks for helping with this Lenten tradition!
Mardi Gras celebration re-cap! What a wonderful evening it was!
Our Mardi Gras committee is still working on some of the final figures, but our fundraiser netted right around $30,000!
The Mardi Gras Committee Thanks You!
Thank you to the school board members and other parents who brought in food for the teachers during this week’s conferences!
3rd Grade Project for Ella, a Proctor 3rd grader with bone cancer:
Monday March 13th- Funky shoe Monday – wear “Funky” shoes because Ella loves funky shoes, and wear your favorite hat. Bring a dollar or more, to support finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Pennies for Patients: As in past years, we are participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s program to raise money to help in the fight against blood cancer. The dates are February 10 through March 30. Students brought home a flyer and a collection box on Friday, February 10th. Students are encouraged to collect dollars, checks, and change to help with the Pennies for Patients effort.
