Parent Letter 09-21-2017

Dear Queen of Peace families,

NWEA-MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Testing will be continuing through the first week of October. The system has been down today, but I’m sure it will be back in service very soon. Please make sure children have a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast, so they can do their best on the tests.

Please keep on collecting donations for the Marathon. The walk will be Saturday morning October 7th. The top fundraiser wins an Apple TV device. A copy of the information sheet for the Marathon is also attached.

***Please use the crosswalks when bringing children across the street. I have to “preach” a little bit, but: Safety definitely outranks convenience. We want everyone to be safe.

We are still in need of a part-time staff member (or some parent volunteers) to help with our After-School Program. At least TWO adults are required in order to have After-School Club open. That is, at least one more adult in addition to Ms. Sarah. So far, we have been getting by with substitute help, but it would be best for the children if we can have the same adult staff for all five days each week.

Please call the school (218-879-8516) or send Mrs. Megan Kalm an email if you can help one or more days next week. (  And, please tell friends or relatives who might like a part-time job. Pay is $9.50 per hour.

With current staffing, we may not be able to offer after-school care without extra help. Wednesdays have been particularly busy with high student numbers.

Please remember to choose which Queen of Peace school apparel you would like to order and send the form to school no later than tomorrow, Friday Sept 22.

Red hoodies, Soft-shell Jackets, T-Shirts for Phy Ed, and warm Knit Queen of Peace hats are among the choices! A copy of the order form is attached.

Are you interested in substitute teaching? If you have a four-year degree (in any subject), you like working with elementary-age students, and pass the background check process, you can be on our list to sub. Pay is $100 per full-day.

Two more requests for parents:

#1- If you have not signed and returned the Handbook signature page, please do so and bring or send it to the school office TOMORROW or MONDAY. We need to have your acknowledgement of receiving the handbook ON FILE in the office.

#2 – Does anyone have a set of walkie-talkies that you are not using that the school can have? Or, would anyone be able to donate a new set? We need a quicker way of communicating with groups outdoors, than via cell-phones.

Countdown to Accreditation Renewal Site-Team visit – 5 ½ weeks and counting!

Every seven years, non-public schools are required to work through a rigorous process of self-study and review, which includes being visited by a site-team from MNSAA (Minnesota Non-Public School Accreditation Association). Last year, we conducted the Self-Study and drafted a new School Strategic Plan. We will have a team visiting Queen of Peace on October 30 and 31. We may need some help from parents on providing snacks and coffee, or other support for the team.
