Parent Letter 10-05-2017

Dear Queen of Peace Families,

Please keep on collecting donations for the Marathon. The walk will be this Saturday morning October 7th at 9:00 a.m. at Pine Valley Recreation Area. It will be inside the arena if it is raining.

The top fundraiser wins an Apple TV device. We would appreciate having all pledged cash and checks turned in by next Friday, October 13th.

***A reminder about uniforms, specifically for girls. We have noticed many girls wearing leggings, which is OK. However, as the uniform policy states, they may only be worn UNDER a skirt/skort/or jumper.

  • Navy colored skirt (knee length), or navy uniform pants, skorts, or jumper
  • Navy or white colored socks or tights, or leggings under a skirt/skort/jumper

Information about Volunteer Drivers from the Diocesan Education office:

Defensive Driving Video

We appreciate all of our volunteers who drive our students to various outings & field trips. If you anticipate being a volunteer driver during the school year, please visit the Catholic Mutual Group website ( to view a short video on Defensive Driving!

There is a PDF attached with information regarding Talking with Children about Violence. With what has been happening in the news recently, parents may want to use it as a helpful resource.

We thank Mrs. Sabyan, who has a friend that works as a school psychologist, for sharing the document.

Interested in having your child participate in Destination Imagination?

DI – 2018 Challenge Previews are available at this web address:

We are planning an informational meeting for 5:00 pm on Thursday October 12th in the school cafeteria. Interested parents are invited to attend.

From our Fundraising committee chairs:

Calling all volunteers!  Wreath packets will go out on Monday October 9th and we are getting prepared for delivery day, which is changing from Friday to THURSDAY.

Our delivery date for wreaths is Thursday, November 16, 2017. (Please see attached letter.)

Mardi Gras 2018 is February 10th, just over 4 months away. The Mardi Gras Committee needs more members to assist with the planning of this large event. We will soon be starting to meet. The first thing we will be working on is deciding on our large presale raffle items. If you know a business or individual who would be willing to donate a large item or if you would like to join this fun team please contact Norlene at or 213-4951.

We are still in need of a part-time staff member (or some parent volunteers) to help with our After-School Program. At least TWO adults are required in order to have After-School Club open. That is, at least one more adult in addition to Ms. Sarah. So far, we have been getting by with substitute help, but it would be best for the children if we can have the same adult staff for all five days each week.

Please call the school (218-879-8516) or send Mrs. Megan Kalm an email if you can help one or more days next week. (  And, please tell friends or relatives who might like a part-time job. Pay is $9.50 per hour.

With current staffing, we may not be able to offer after-school care without extra help. Wednesdays have been particularly busy with high student numbers.

Are you interested in substitute teaching? If you have a four-year degree (in any subject), you like working with elementary-age students, and pass the background check process, you can be on our list to sub. Pay is $100 per full-day.

Countdown to Accreditation Renewal Site-Team visit – 4 ½ weeks and counting!

Every seven years, non-public schools are required to work through a rigorous process of self-study and review, which includes being visited by a site-team from MNSAA (Minnesota Non-Public School Accreditation Association). Last year, we conducted the Self-Study and drafted a new School Strategic Plan. We will have a team visiting Queen of Peace on October 30 and 31. We may need some help from parents on providing snacks and coffee, or other support for the team.
