Our VisionNATURAL AND SUPERNATURAL
We can catch a glimpse of this in the things humans create. Compare a beautiful school building, state building, or auditorium built a century ago with the same kind of thing built in our own day. In the public works of former times, there is a higher level of beauty. It is the expression of a civilization that still recognized deeper meanings; a civilization that had not yet lost its faith. That faith was not just some matter of personal opinion. It was a shared culture, and it corresponded to the practices and needs of public life in ways that could be seen. Beauty has disappeared from modern buildings at the same rate that our civilization has ceased to acknowledge any meaningful foundation in a shared spiritual world.
If we are wise, we will see a lesson here. It is related to the way Catholic education differs from the view of education-as-useful-training. Catholic School teaches the fullness of reality, including the supernatural truths from which we come to understand of the knowledge we all need to use. The result is more than useful. It actually becomes beautiful. Knowledge alone is a tool, but our souls seek purpose. We find that in the meaningful world of the spirit.
Queen of Peace Catholic School students encounter the truths of nature in their core and enrichment classes – literacy, language arts, math, science, foreign language, art, music and more. They also encounter the supernatural reality of Christ personally each day, where He is present in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Father Nelson teaches catechism classes that build on the work parents and families already do, to explain the power and meaning of the sacraments within the great story of the human race. Students with this united vision of both natural and supernatural reality are prepared to consider who they are called to be in this world, to live with greater courage, to use their talents wisely, and to accomplish greater things to the glory of God and to the benefit of themselves and others.

Educational Program & Policies
ACCREDITATION Queen of Peace Catholic School is accredited by the Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association (MNSAA) and annual reports are submitted to this agency in order to meet association standards.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS Throughout the school year, progress is evaluated on an on-going basis through assignments and projects, teacher observation, subject area testing, and aptitude test scores (NWEA). Communication with parents/guardians is on-going throughout the school year by means of progress reports, conduct referrals, phone calls, e-mail, report cards, and conferences.
The teachers keep parents/guardians informed of progress, achievements, and problems. If problems occur, the parents/guardians are notified and become part of the process of strategizing for a positive solution.
CURRICULUM Curriculum is the learning plan that identifies the content, materials, resources, and procedures for assessing the attainment of educational outcomes. The curriculum reflects the mission and goals of the school community, needs of the learners, and edifying educational practices that enable all students to be confident. The curriculum reflects an awareness and appreciation of the diversity found throughout all of God’s creation, including the human family. At the same time, it reflects the educational stages and learning philosophies distilled by the unparalleled 2,500-year tradition of Western education.
The curriculum has been developed through the Standards of the Diocese of Duluth to meet or exceed all applicable requirements of the State of Minnesota. The textbooks and other learning materials are chosen to meet school and diocesan educational goals. The principal and faculty update and evaluate the curriculum regularly.
INSTRUCTION Instruction is the process of delivering the school’s curriculum to students. Teachers help students learn and enable them to develop meaningful use of concepts and skills, through age-appropriate stages. The teachers also foster the students’ development of attitudes, understanding, and virtues. The teachers strive to establish an environment, and accessibility of resources that will facilitate experiences to support all learners in constructing and exhibiting knowledge.
Teachers seek to meet the needs of individual students in all curriculum areas. Throughout the core curriculum, emphasis is placed on faith integration, creative thinking, graceful writing, proficient speaking, skillful communication, and problem solving.EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM Each area of our school’s educational program is in a continual process of being integrated with the values, principles, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church.
