email

Hello! I am excited to be starting my 3rd year here at Queen of Peace School.  This year you will find me in the school office as the school secretary and once again in the gym as the PE teacher. I am also part of our fundraising committee as co-chair, with my husband Jeff, of the pizza fundraiser, a member of the marketing committee and green team.  And most importantly, I am a parent of 3 children here at Queen of Peace School, Annalise-5th grade, Joseph-3rd grade, and Claira-1st grade.

I was born in Colorado, and raised here in Cloquet.  I attended both the College of St. Scholastica and the Duluth Business University. Fun fact I also lived in Phoenix Arizona for 3.5 years with my husband…what was I thinking leaving the beautiful 100 degree weather for this frozen box?!

My family and I love anything that has to do with the outdoors.  We enjoy a wide range of activities from swimming, mountain biking, rock climbing, playing soccer, and hiking (my favorite).  I am really excited this year to share my passion for the outdoors with your children in gym class.  I hope that I can inspire them to get out and do something to stay healthy.

This will be my sixth year at Queen of Peace. It is my third year as lead teacher in the preschool classroom. In addition to teaching at QOP, I am also the chair of the fundraising committee, a Destination Imagination Coach and a member of the school board. I feel privileged to say that in addition to being on the staff at Queen of Peace, I am also a parent and parishioner. My husband Tom and I moved to Cloquet eight years ago with our three children, Samantha (12th grade), Sarena (11th grade) and Thomas (TJ- 6th grade at Queen of Peace). We previously lived in South St. Paul where I earned my Bachelor’s of Science degree from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis. Prior to living in the Twin Cities area, I was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!). I enjoy spending time with my family, playing and watching sports (especially the Vikings), traveling, working in the yard, playing with our dogs, and volunteering.

I am excited to be part of this unique learning environment at Queen of Peace. I look forward to working with your children and taking advantage of all of the teachable moments! Feel free to stop me in the hallways or send me an email with any questions!

Greetings from the preschool room!  My name is Gwen Genereau and I am excited to begin the new school year!  This is my second year assisting Mrs. Karin Sabyan.  I am happy to see returning faces as well as getting to know all the new students enrolled this year!  Prior to coming to Queen of Peace, I worked part-time for 5 years with Cloquet’s Early Childhood/Family Education and School Readiness Programs. I stayed home with my four children prior to working part-time; something I truly enjoyed!  I have a bachelor of science degree in social work with a minor in child and family studies.

My husband, Andrew, and I have been married for 20 years.  We have four children who all attended Queen of Peace School.  Our daughter, Emily, is beginning her sophomore year of college at UW-Superior.  She is studying to be an elementary teacher so she sometimes helps out at Queen of Peace.  Our son, Jean-Luc, is a senior this year at Cloquet Senior High School.  He is busy with the cross-country running team as well college searches.  Our son, Mario, is a freshman at Cloquet Senior High School.  He is loving being on the JV soccer team.  Our daughter, Isabella, is in 6th grade here at Queen of Peace–her final year here.  She loves Destination Imagination and Girl Scouts.  We are all parishioners here at Queen of Peace as well.

In my spare time (What spare time? Usually you will find me doing laundry or at the grocery store.)  Okay, seriously, in my spare time I enjoy being outdoors, gardening, or reading a good book.

I wish everyone a wonderful school year full of God’s blessings!

Hello from 1st grade! My name is Pam Hagen. This is my first year at Queen of Peace School and I am LOVING it!! I come to Queen of Peace with almost 20 years of teaching experience, the past 17 years as a preschool teacher at Homecroft Elementary in Duluth. I attended The College of St. Scholastica for Elementary Education. Yeah, GO SAINTS!

I was born and raised in Brainerd, MN and still enjoy spending time at my childhood home boating, water skiing, snowmobiling and enjoying family time. I live in Cloquet with my husband Steve and daughter Kaiya who is a Junior at Hermantown High School and also attends UMD as a post secondary student. OK, GO BULLDOGS! She keeps busy with school, track and college searches.  Our son Blake is newly married and lives in Duluth with his wife Maarja. It is nice they are close so we are able to spend time with them often. We also have a dog named Buggzey and a cat named Bae. I have always felt called by God to teach young children and serve their families.  I feel very blessed to be able to be a part of the Queen of Peace staff and it is a joy to be working in such a beautiful, warm and loving place.

I am very thrilled to be part of this wonderful school. My name is Jenni Sternberg and I am excited to start a new school year. This is my first year back in the classroom after being away for 14 years. While I was away, I have done many things, including owning my own in-home daycare for 10 years.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BAS in Elementary Education. I minored in Communications. I was born and raised in Duluth, where I currently live and raise my family. My husband, Paul and I have two children at home. Our daughter, Katarina, is 9 and in 3rd Grade at St. John’s Catholic school in Duluth. Our son, Jakob, is 5 and attends preschool at St. John’s. We love spending time together. Some of our favorite things to do are to go swimming, hiking, to the library, and to the park. When I get a chance, I love to do crafts and writing.

I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th Grade. I have taught at Lakeview Christian Academy, St. James, St. Rose, and Proctor Intermediate. This last year I was Reading Corps Tutor.

I am very glad to be back in the classroom and I am anxious to work with this class.

IMG_9450Ashley Keppers – 3rd Grade

email

Greetings from 3rd grade! This is my 7th year at Queen of Peace, I spent my first six years in kindergarten, and finally graduated to 3rd! It only took 6 years, but I made quite the jump!  I am fortunate enough to spend my days with a class full of boys, and have had most of them in kindergarten so the transition to third is exciting!   I am originally from Eveleth, and graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth (GO BULLDOGS!) with a degree in Elementary Education. My husband and I have been married for four years and have two children, Kaleb (3), and Kora (born in May). We enjoy going to Bulldog hockey games, Huskie baseball games, and you will usually find some sort of sports channel on at our house (although I still don’t know that much about any of them, I just LOVE watching).  I absolutely LOVE being a mom, and it is an added bonus to me to spend my days with the children here at Queen of Peace.  If you stop by our classroom, you will most likely find students anywhere but in their seats! We like to learn by using stability balls, rolling chairs, lawn chairs, giant pillows, and cushions, or laying on the floor. This year promises to be full of fun and lots of learning!

Stop by to visit, stay a while, and bounce on a ball while we read together and learn together.

A fun fact, my Grandma was principal at Marquette Catholic School in Virginia (Holy Spirit Catholic Church), she also taught…..3rd grade!!!

Peace and Blessings from third grade.

IMG_9457Aleksandra Petrovich – 4th Grade

email

Pozdrav (Greetings) from Fourth Grade!

I am grateful and excited to begin my second year as the QoP fourth grade teacher. I earned my BA in English and Literature in Serbia where I was born and raised. I received my K-6 teaching license upon completing the graduate teacher licensure program at the College of St. Scholastica. My previous teaching experiences include teaching English as a foreign language, teaching church school and youth choir.

I have lived in the States for almost 12 years, the last 4 ½ in Duluth. My family and I moved here from the Metro Detroit area. My husband Kristian is an Eastern Orthodox priest serving at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Gary-New Duluth. Our three children are all students at Queen of Peace. Teodora is in 5th grade, Yustina in 2nd, and Spiridon in preschool.

What I enjoy most about teaching at Queen of Peace is that we are able to frame our learning in a way that reflects our faith. This unique perspective challenges and encourages us to dive deeper, leap higher, and explore wider than we could ever imagine. For, with God, all things are possible. In our school, we live and learn by these words every day. It is truly humbling and rewarding at the same time.

I look forward to an amazing year of spiritual growth and learning, both for my students and myself. I hope to share with them my enthusiasm for the faith, thirst for knowledge, fascination with math and the natural world, and love of languages, music, art, and literature.

May the Lord bless our year together in fourth grade!

IMG_9448Elizabeth Waldorf – 5th & 6th Grade

email

Hello! My name is Liz Waldorf and this will be my third year teaching at Queen of Peace. You may have recognized me in the hall from last year as Miss Litke, but now I’m Mrs. Waldorf! My husband’s name is Isaak and together we enjoy fishing, water skiing, camping, and practically all other outdoor activities. I graduated from St. Mary’s College (in Notre Dame, Indiana) in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. I then traveled to Ghana, West Africa to teach 2nd grade with the Sisters of the Holy Cross for 10 months. What an experience!

I am thrilled to be a part of the Queen of Peace team this year. My family has been involved in the parish since we moved to Cloquet in 2004, and I could not imagine a better environment in which a child can grow and learn. Queen of Peace offers a unique learning environment centered on faith, encouraging and enabling students to grow on many levels. I am so blessed to be a part of this family!
