“The care our children receive makes our hearts so incredibly happy.”

"I loved going to Queen of Peace as a kid. It was small, so I knew everyone at the school and felt at home there. I made true and lasting friendships at school. And I loved the traditions! We participated at Mass by lectoring, cantoring, and altar serving. We sang “Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel”, lit the candles, and prayed together during Advent. We learned about Jesus’ death and resurrection both in class and through the sixth graders doing a passion play during lent. These traditions made learning about our faith enjoyable for me. Looking back, I more deeply appreciate that prayer and talking about God was normal at school. We watched our classmate suffer with his health and were able to pray for him together. Together , we knew that he was with God when he passed. Pondering this moment as an adult makes me wonder if grieving the loss of my friend may have gone much differently had I not had this gift of a faith-filled community. I’m certain life would be different for me in other ways too had I not gone to Queen of Peace. I am a sinner. I have questioned and doubted my faith just like anyone else. I have strayed just like anyone else. But I would send my kids to Queen of Peace in a heartbeat if I could. Why? Life is confusing and we will all question our purpose here. My family and my school taught me that we have a greater purpose. We all have an identity that cannot be changed by any mistake we might make. We are God’s creatures. Through baptism we are his children. Through crises of self-doubt, broken friendships, loneliness, and suffering that so many kids begin to experience during and beyond elementary school, I want our kids to know that they have a God that loves them endlessly. When the world seems turned against them, I hope they know that God is there. This is what Queen of Peace truly gave me-- The constant reminder that God is the center of everything we do and everything we are. I was exposed to this truth day in and day out. Sure, I forgot about God all the time! But between the principal, teachers, and students, Queen of Peace did not forget about God. It takes a village to form disciples, and Queen of Peace was that village for my family and me.

Thank you for the field day. It was such a joy to be a part of it. The sense of community was overwhelming. As I saw the teams going around it was so uplifting to see how the teachers knew all the kids in the school and cared for them equally. The camaraderie among the teachers, parents, administrators, children, and us other people was impressive. One of the middle schoolers even insisted that I participate in the tug of war. It was a great day!

“Queen of Peace School has been a part of my life for years: first, forming a solid Catholic faith in my elementary years as a student and then, later on, helping my husband and I strengthen our own children’s relationship with God as they attended Queen of Peace (2003-2010). Teaching at the school, during the time our children attended it, showed me how blessed we are that God and our past parishioners felt it important to include Catholic education as part of our church’s mission."

"When I was in 5th grade, we planned an end-of-year trip to the Audubon Center of the North Woods for the 3rd through 6th grade classes. We were so excited! However, in order to make the 3-day excursion possible, we had to raise funds for the trip. As a class, we brainstormed and decided that opening a school store was the way to go. Tuesday and Thursday mornings we opened the store to the rest of the school for 30 minutes. We were responsible for taking orders, keeping track of inventory, running a til and making change, calculating daily profits and expenses, and re-ordering to keep our supplies stocked. It was awesome! After a few months of operation, we had raised enough money for the field trip. We kept the store running and donated our end-of-year remaining profits to the school. Perhaps I didn't realize it then, but being in charge of our own school store was an early lesson in responsibility, hard work, and goal-setting. Over a decade later, this is one of my favorite memories from my time at Queen of Peace School, and something I would love to replicate in my own classroom one day!"

“Queen of Peace has blessed me in so many ways: in introducing me to foreign languages young (I am now going into translating because of this); in creating for me a foundation of education, community, and faith.”

“Though I am not Catholic and a lot of the practices here were foreign to me, I spent three years in a safe and wonderful environment. I learned about the Catholic Church and how to involve Jesus in my daily life. I grew very fond of the Church’s beauty, and my 5th grade teacher introduced me to painting in the Church, which really motivated me to paint and make art inspired by beautiful things. I’m very grateful for the time I spent here.”

"When I was in 5th and 6th grade, I was selected (with a few other students) to be in an advanced reading class. We read classics like Kon Tiki, Call of the Wild, and Charlotte's Web, to name a few. I believe this is why I enjoy reading so much today. These books are what helped to form my imagination and desire for adventures."
